1. Prioritize What’s Important
Have a think about what matters to you in life.
Now ask yourself this… Why does this matter?
Understanding what matters and why this matters will help you understand how to prioritize what’s truly important to you.
It could be family, career, education, travel, your relationship. Whatever it is that matters most, focus on finding ways to prioritize this.
Example: Let’s say you’re looking for a new job.
Based on your priorities in life you’re going to have different criteria for what you deem as a great job…
If family is of #1 importance to you, you may be looking for a job that accommodates you leaving early in the summer to go to your son’s baseball games, or allows you to work from home a few days a week.
If education is most important to you, you may be looking to work for a company that pays for your education.
Travel, you might be looking to find a career (or a company) that allows you to go on sabbatical or even work online from different locations.
As you can see, these examples are related to finding a job and understanding your priorities will help you decide what company is right for you.
2. Dedicate Time for Things You Love
You may think this sounds easier said than done. If there’s anything that most people need these days is more time.
So, how do you create this time so you can actually enjoy things you love?
First, this actually goes back to the first tip I mentioned – how to prioritize what’s important.
If you want to create meaningful time for yourself to experience joy, you must be intentional with making it happen.
One of the most important things you can do is stop scrolling on your phone. From what you may think is a couple of minutes on your device could end up 30 minutes of you looking at social media content that doesn’t make you feel so great.
So, be mindful of that and ask yourself… how can I use this time to do something I love?
Tip: Dedicating time to what you love can include big and little things. This might be having a cup of tea, reading a great book, we’re going for a walk around the block.
I encourage you to write a list of the little and big things that make you feel good.

3. Develop Good Routines
Developing good routines in your daily life can be a wonderful way to make life easier. Routines can provide structure and clarity, which in turn reduces stress.
The benefit of developing a good routine is that it becomes easier to get things done, and you’ll find that your life is running more smoothly.
A great example of this is to set a good morning routine.
- Do you have a tough time getting ready in the morning?
- Have you ever wanted to start your day differently?
By making this process the same every day can help you be more productive, which in turn means finding time to create more balance in your life.
Find some inspiration in this post on Morning Self Care Routines and try it for a week. Then you can see how much better you feel throughout the day.
4. Live in a Minimalist Lifestyle
There are many benefits to living a minimalist lifestyle such as being good to the environment and having more time to focus on what’s important in life.
In order to begin living a minimalist lifestyle starts with the right mindset.
Truly focus on what you need and what you love. Everything else is clutter.
This not only applies to things but also your approach to relationships; how you spend your time and the way you think about life.

5. Declutter
Decluttering your surroundings makes you feel good. In comparison, if you have clutter everywhere your stress levels can go through the roof.
If you can’t complete a task such as cooking, eating at your dinner table or doing your taxes – all due to clutter, this can be a real problem.
Clutter can seem overwhelming and declutter is easy to put off but this can make things worse.
Declutter your home and you’ll feel better about your daily life. You will feel lighter and start to enjoy your home in new ways.
There are easy ways you can begin to deal with clutter and this can start with organizing just one space in your home.
Go ahead and conquer that drawer or kitchen cabinet – even this small amount of decluttering will make you feel great!
6. Meal Prep
Regardless of your circumstances, meal prepping once a week can be a huge time saver.
It not only reduces the stress of making a healthy meal at the end of the day, it also means you can save time and have a more relaxing evening.
Tips for meal prepping:
- Cut up fruits and vegetables so they are easy to grab & go for healthy snacks
- Make a one-pot meal every Sunday that you can eat during the week – soup, chilli or any instant pot dish is perfect for this
- Prepare a variety of proteins you can easily use for a salad at lunch or and healthy rice bowl at dinner. Some good options: grilled chicken, roasted chickpeas, boiled eggs, ripe avocados, etc
- Pre-wash and chopped up lettuce or kale so you can use it quickly at mealtime – baby spinach is also excellent for this

7. Understand your “high performance” times
Do you ever notice there are certain times during the day you feel more productive or more creative?
On the other hand, there are also times you can barely get through one item on your to-do list.
Paula, a friend of mine who’s an ADHD & productivity coach, shared an interesting productivity concept with me recently.
She mentioned, “There are certain times in the day that we are better at doing more analytical tasks and there are also other times in a day we may be better at being creative.”
This made so much sense to me so I wanted to put this to the test!
I discovered that I feel more creative in the afternoon and it’s, therefore, the perfect time for me to write articles and work on graphic design projects.
I also noticed I am better at doing analytical / to-do list work first thing in the morning.
So, I have adjusted the way I work on a daily basis, which reduces stress in my life and helps me be far more productive.
Think about your high-performance times and put them to the test too!
8. Write Achievable To-Do Lists
To-do lists can be overwhelming, however, writing a to-do list that’s achievable will actually help you accomplish more!
If you have too many items on your to-do list there’s a good chance your overwhelm will prevent you from completing everything.
So, for every day of the week add only one big item to your list and focus on this.
When we have too many things on our list, many times we do the easy stuff and avoid what really needs to be taken care of.
Just imagine how you’d feel if you did something really important on your to-do list every day this upcoming week.
It would feel darn good!
9. Become a Single Tasking Expert
For so long, especially as women and mothers, we have thought of multitasking as a true skill. We’ve believed that someone who’s great at multitasking can accomplish more in their day.
In actuality, this is 100% false.
It’s been proven over time that our brains as humans can actually not multitask. We may think we are multitasking when in reality we are jumping from single task to single task.
As mentioned on verywellmind.com,
“Research has shown that our brains are not nearly as good at handling multiple tasks as we like to think they are. In fact, some researchers suggest that multitasking can actually reduce productivity by as much as 40%.”
Therefore, becoming a single-tasking expert will help you get more done, feel more accomplished and reduce the stress you feel of working on too many things at once.
10. Practice Self Love
You may think that practicing self-love seems cliche or that it means you’re being selfish. This is simply not the case.
We’ve all heard of the saying you can’t pour from an empty cup and this is where self-love and self-care come into play.
Looking after your happiness, your confidence, and your self-worth will make your life easier in so many ways.
In fact, by learning how to love yourself you’ll be able to stand up for what’s important in your life. You’ll also be able to implement these other tips provided in this article such as learning to say no, learning how to move on end listening to your gut.

11. Learn How to Move On
No matter how much we love something (or someone), it’s not always possible to keep doing things the same way forever.
It can be incredibly tough when you realize that what made sense in the past no longer works for you.
This could be a job, where you live, your relationship, a friendship. It could also be you learning how to let go of a grudge or something that’s not good for you.
Check out this truly helpful article from Everyday Health with tips to help you move on which starts with understanding you have not failed.
You can do this! Learning to move on will make life easier for you in so many positive ways.
12. Be Good to Yourself

13. Understand You Can’t Fix Everything
You may consider yourself a “fixer” however, fixing other people’s problems isn’t always good for you or them.
It can feel good to fix things for people however this can prevent them from learning how to fix things themselves.
It can also put you in an awkward position when you can’t fix a problem or if you’ve provided advice or a solution that’s made things worse.
If someone is struggling, always remember that simply being there for them and listening is what people really need. You can support and show love without overstepping your boundaries.
In the long run, this can be better for your relationship and your overall mental health.
14. Let go of toxic relationships
Do you ever feel like good (easy) relationships are hard to find and maintain?
If yes, still know that it’s better to let go of someone who’s toxic in your life than to keep them around because you’re afraid of being alone.
You deserve better and are a beautiful person who can create opportunities for deep, meaningful friendships and relationships. Don’t forget this.
If you have a relationship you’re questioning, get real with how you truly feel. What does your heart say about the situation vs. your mind?
15. Be Good at Saying No
Do you find yourself saying yes when you wish you could say no?
Do you also feel instant anxiety when you say yes to someone knowing you can’t handle the commitment?
Getting into the practice of saying no will empower you to say yes to what you really want in your life.

16. Write Down What’s Bothering You
Are you an overthinker?
Do you have a hard time moving on from negative thoughts?
This is where writing down what’s bothering you can be an extremely helpful tool.
In addition to writing down what’s bothering you, I also encourage you to write about positive experiences in your life in the same writing session.
This could come in the form of writing what you’re grateful for.
Doing this will help you let go of what’s on your mind and help you focus on the good things in life.
17. Find Joy in Life
Finding joy in life starts with taking a look at your everyday activities.
- Are there things you might be taking for granted?
- Can you look at something simple that makes you feel good?
Recognizing these everyday occurrences that bring you joy is a great place to find positivity.
Finding joy in your life all starts with being intentional about finding joy.
Here are some useful tips you can use to find joy and make life easier:
- Focus on the simple pleasures in life. I like to categorize these pleasures into using your 5 senses. See a list of 125 simple pleasures you can add to your life.

18. Listen to Your Gut
I’m a strong believer that deep down in your gut you always know what to do in any given situation.
Whether it’s your relationship, your career or your finances, your gut instinct is usually correct.
Sometimes our gut instinct and our heart are in conflict, but eventually, most people end up going with their gut feelings, even if it takes time.
So if you’re ever unsure what to do in a situation, think about the following:
- What feels right?
- Is there a solution that aligns with your values and goals?
19. Celebrate Your Progress
In order to accomplish things in life, there is a process we all must take.
The individual steps we take are just as important as the final outcome. So, always celebrate the hard work you’ve been doing along the way.
Even if you don’t reach your goal, think about how you’ve grown and what you’ve learned by evaluating your process.

20. Change One Thing at a Time
This applies to new habits or even the tips in this post.
Don’t get overwhelmed by doing too much at once. Decide what you’re going to focus on for a specific period of time and just do that.
This will help you accomplish your goals, change a habit and also make your life easier!
