12 Fun Ways To Practice Self-Love This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day isn’t only for romantic relationships, so whether you’re single or in a couple, what better way to celebrate the month of love than with some Valentine’s Day self-love?

Personally, I don’t subscribe to one day only to celebrate any kind of love – self-love or romantic love – however, why not create a special self-love day to make yourself feel good? Why not – right?!

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day this year by looking after you.

The Importance of Self-Love on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about love – but in many cases, it can feel like it’s more about expectations, pressure, and stress – especially if you are single or in a relationship where you’re unhappy.

Even if you’re in a happy relationship, the expectations of Valentine’s Day often sidetrack us on what’s actually important – LOVE.

Creating time for self-love this Valentine’s Day can help you replace these feelings with something to truly look forward to. And the best part is you have control over what your Valentine’s Day self-love looks like.

Creating time for self-love and looking after your needs can have so many powerful benefits:

  • Increased happiness
  • Reduce stress
  • Better overall balance in life
  • You’ll be able to take better care of others
  • Better support for your mental health
  • Most importantly – you can give true love to yourself, so you’ll stop seeking it from others.

12 Fun Self-Love Ideas This Valentine’s Day

Begin your Valentine’s day self love with the following fun ideas…

12 Fun Ways To Practice SELF LOVE This Valentine's Day

1. Have a Self-Love Galentine’s day

Why not have some Valentine’s Day self-love with your best friends?!

Let’s be honest – just being with your friends feels good, but if you add a few self-love activities into the mix (hello mani’s, pedi’s & your favorite restaurant) – you can have even more fun looking after yourself.

2. Go on a date with yourself

I’m a massive fan of the self-date and I’ve been talking about it for years on this blog – but have you tried it yet?

Essentially going on a date with yourself is as it sounds:

  • Take yourself to a movie
  • Go for a walk on the beach
  • Buy yourself some flowers
  • Go to a cozy coffee shop with a good book
  • Cook your favorite meal with a good glass of wine
  • Order takeout from your fave place

Going on a solo date is really about mindset. The effort you might put into going on a date with someone else – you can put into dating yourself!

Make a plan, block time off in your calendar and do something that brings you pure joy! No need to wait for someone else – you are doing this for you and only you.

3. Do Something You Are Truly Passionate About

You know that to-do list you have that has ‘that thing’ you’ve been wanting to do? Well, this is your permission to go and do it.

Personally, I’ve had ‘photography’ on my personal to-do list for ages, yet month after month I’m not giving myself permission to do it. Instead, I put everything else first.

Let’s take that thing we’re passionate about and create proper space for it.

Whether you want to start a new hobby, workout, read, start a blog, paint – whatever; make a commitment to yourself to start and continue doing this.

4. Practice Positive Self-Talk

When you think about how you feel about yourself what comes to mind?

I sincerely hope you’re thinking… I love myself, I’m capable of anything, I feel strong and I am proud of who I am.

However, if you’re overly self-critical your self-talk will most likely sound quite different.

No time like the month of February to start changing your inner voice and truly support your mental health.

Here are some self-love exercises you can try to help you practice positive self-talk:

5. Start a Self Love Journal

Check out my self-love journal ‘Love Yourself First: Daily Guided Journal’. It helps you practice self-love every day to find balance, create a positive mindset and give yourself permission to grow in meaningful ways.

It’s a journal and workbook I created based on this popular Self Love journal prompts post.

You can grab the journal prompts in the post or check out the journal, for sale on Amazon.

6. Have an at-home spa day or evening

I’m talking about a face mask, bubble bath, and a little mani/pedi.

No social media allowed! Instead, replace it with your all-time favorite movie. You know the one – that flick you’ve watched at least 25 times and it brings you pure joy!

7. Book yourself a massage

If you’re able, go and treat yourself to a relaxing massage.

Whether you can ‘book in’ with your partner to massage you or go to a massage therapist – this is the perfect way to unwind, relax and pamper yourself.

8. Write a love letter to yourself

Express love to yourself this Valentine’s Day.

This love letter can be written in your journal, or even on a beautiful piece of paper that you’ll put in an envelope and perhaps read next Valentine’s Day.

You can also use post-it notes and write little notes to yourself whenever you feel inspired.

Choose a journal prompt below to help get started…

  • I love you because…
  • You inspire me in these ways…
  • You are worthy of happiness because…
  • I was so impressed when you…
  • I was so proud when you…

9. Call A Loved One

Specifically, call someone who makes you feel great. That person who makes you laugh, warms your heart and you appreciate with all your heart.

This is also a great time to express your gratitude for them.

10. Treat Yourself To Flowers & Chocolate

Regardless of your relationship status – go and treat yourself! No one knows what you like better than yourself.

Treat yourself this Valentine’s Day to:

  • Your favourite truffles
  • A beautiful house plant
  • Your favourite flowers
  • A chocolate cake
  • And anything else your heart desires 🙂

I also think waiting for gifts on Valentine’s Day from your significant other can also cause a lot of stress in a relationship.

Why not just treat yourself instead and let go of expectations from your partner? Valentine’s is such a hyped-up day and what you receive is genuinely not a representation of your relationship.

11. Treat Yourself To Some Thoughtful Gifts

So, we talked about flowers and chocolate – but it doesn’t have to stop there.

It’s okay to treat yourself to some little things (or bigger things) once in a while.

  • Pick up a pretty new notebook
  • Get that dutch oven you’ve added to your shopping cart multiple times, but never purchased (here’s the one I just treated myself to)
  • Buy some relaxing essential oils
  • Stock up on your favorite skincare products

12. Start a 30-Day Self-Love Challenge

We know love and self-love aren’t meant for one day only – so dedicate the next 30 days to loving yourself.

Now is the perfect time to create time to become your best self, helping you create new healthy habits to love yourself more.

Final thoughts

Just a little Reminder…

The most important relationship you can have is with yourself.

We’ve all heard the saying ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’ – but it really is true.

How can you support everyone else in your life, if you can’t support yourself? So, no time like the present to take better care of yourself – you deserve it.

So, always remember at the end of the day to remind yourself that YOU MATTER. Your happiness matters and you deserve to allow time to get into your happy place.

I hope you enjoy this Valentine’s Day dedicated to self-love xo
