Whether you want to feel more grounded, energized, or simply more present, this guide is here to support you in creating a summer rhythm that feels good to your mind, body, and soul.
5 Steps To Create The Perfect Summer Morning Routine For You
1. Write Down Your Current Routine
Grab a notebook and write down the list of things you currently do in the morning.
Write down each thing you currently do – even if you’re not in love with your current routine.
It might be:
- Wake up
- Make coffee
- Drink coffee while scrolling social media
- Shower
- Go to work
2. Decide How You’d Like To Feel in the Mornings this Summer
Here are some feelings to consider: Peaceful, relaxed, accomplished, healthy, energized, grounded, joyful, focused, refreshed.
Now, you might want to choose multiple feels, let’s face it, wouldn’t we love to feel ALL of these things?!
Instead, choose ONE main feeling you want to focus on to start, especially when starting your summer morning routine. You can always add one or two more later on.
3. Choose What You Want To Add To Your Routine
Now that you’ve decided how you want to feel, add in one or two new items to your morning routine that will help you feel this way.
For example, if you want to feel…
- Peaceful in the morning, you might add journaling or meditation
- Healthy, you could add in a long walk in your neighbourhood and a healthy smoothie
- Accomplished, you can write and/or review your to-do list and take action on one thing
4. Choose what you want to remove from your mornings
I mentioned in step 1 to write down everything you currently do in the morning – even the stuff you don’t want to be doing.
Now, you can look at your current routine and decide what you want to remove. Remove what’s not serving you and what is taking away from how you want to feel.
5. How can you make what you already do feel more summery?
In step 1, you looked at your current morning routine. For the things you want to continue doing, decide how you can make them feel more summery.
Here are a few examples:
- Gym >> outdoor yoga or a walk in the park
- Reading in the living room>> reading outdoors
- Working in your home office >> work on the backyard patio
- Taking a conference call in the office >> do a ‘walk and talk’ instead
- Morning coffee in the kitchen >> enjoy the coffee outside (on your porch, a patio, or park bench)

Creating My Ideal Summer Morning Routine
I am going to follow the directions and share with you the morning routine I’m creating for myself this summer.
1. My current morning routine:
- Walk my dog first thing in the morning
- Make tea
- Drink it in my living room while I check email and social media
- Go to the gym (2-3x a week)
- Take my pup out and water my plants in the garden
- Shower
- Make breakfast
- Start work
2. How I want to feel in the mornings:
I mainly want to feel at peace.
3. What I want to add to my routine:
- Daily writing – specifically writing a rough draft of a blog post for this website in a notebook. I find writing with a pen or pencil makes me feel very relaxed and I enjoy the process of writing the most this way.
- Journal check-in – I want to do a quick check-in on my mood/feelings, plus set an intention for the day.
4. What I want to remove from my mornings:
The big one here is checking email and social media. There is no need for me to do this first thing in the morning. I want to get to a point where I only do this when I sit down to start work.
5. Things I can make more ‘summery’:
I currently drink my morning tea inside, so I’m going to move this to the backyard. This way, my pup can enjoy the outdoors, and I can enjoy the sounds of chirping birds while I enjoy my tea and do some writing.
Final Thoughts:
Summer flies by way too fast, so creating a morning routine you love is one of the best ways to slow things down and soak up the season.
Even small changes like moving your coffee outside or swapping your scroll time for something more nourishing can change how you feel for the whole day.
Remember, there’s no perfect summer routine. What matters is how it makes you feel.
Start with just one or two small changes that align with how you want your mornings to feel, whether that’s peaceful, energized, grounded, or joyful. And if some mornings don’t go as planned, that’s okay too. Be kind to yourself. Tomorrow is a fresh start.
Here’s to slow, soul-nourishing mornings that help you truly enjoy this beautiful season. You deserve it.
