25 Of Our Date Night Ideas + Create Your Own
For those of you in long-term relationships, whether married or not, do you have official date nights? We don’t, and there’s one thing I’ve realized over the years – if I don’t put something in my calendar, it doesn’t happen.
So, my husband and I sat down recently and made a list of the date night ideas we want to do together.
Most are free or low-cost, with a few date night ideas that we’ll do for special occasions.
Naturally, I wanted to share with you – and I’d love you to do the same, so please share in the comments below some of your fun date night ideas you’ve done or want to do.
25 of Our Date Night Ideas
I’m categorizing these date ideas so we can choose something based on our mood, budget, etc.
Free Date Night Ideas
1. Watch the sunset on the water – We live very close to Lake Ontario, so this is an easy, free one for us.
2. Online Cooking Class – My friend Jesse Lane runs cooking classes from time to time and has a FREE Lentil Curry Zoom class on February 17th, 2026. Join in on the action!
3. Board Game Night – My hubby usually beats me (sigh!), but I love a good game night. Pair it with some relaxing music, candles, and maybe even a spicy game to keep things interesting?!
4. Walk in the park – We have the largest park in our city so close to us and yet we don’t get there enough, so a relaxing stroll while taking in nature is the perfect quality time together.
5. Local Free Event – We’re checking out Doors Open Toronto this year to get a peek inside some of the most beautiful buildings and sites. Usually, getting into these locations comes at a cost. (See if your city or town has a similar event)
6. Hiking – Hiking is our happy place, so my goal is to do much more of this together in 2026.
7. Museum – Our local museum (The ROM), is free on the 3rd Tuesday night of every month, so we plan to check out a free night soon.
8. Indoor Romantic Picnic – Perfect for a cold winter night. The rule is no phones or TV – replaced by music, conversation and food we make and enjoy together.
Creative Date Night Ideas
9. Candle Making – I have the materialsso are going to do this at home, but there are also many places that do in-person workshops.
10. Wine Tasting – We love to check out wineries we haven’t been to before and with the largest wine region in Canada (Niagara) just about an 1 1/2 hours away from us its a perfect day trip, or overnight stay.
11. Pottery Class – I’m dying to make cute mugs we can use daily.
12. Candlelight Concert – Available in 100+ cities around the world – takes place in beautiful theatres and churches. Candlelight Experience specializes in tributes to different bands/genres such as Pink Floyd, Bad Bunny, Coldplay, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and so many more.
13. Local Indie Theatre – Theatre can be expensive, and I think supporting local talent is the perfect date night out. You can experience a great play without breaking the bank and get just as much enjoyment.
14. Stratford Festival – A theatre festival, every year from April to November. We’re planning on having a romantic weekend away to do this one, so we can enjoy a play and explore the area.
Fun Date Ideas
All of these ideas are also perfect for a double or triple date night.
15. Bowling – I’ve always loved bowling and we’ve done it as a family, but never a date night, so I look forward to this one.
16. Comedy Club – In this day and age we need all the laughing we can get! So we’re going to check out some local comedy clubs like Yuk Yuks and Second City.
17. Play Pool – When I was yojng I would go on pool/billiards dates all the time, but we’ve never done it together, so this is a nice, easy one that’s fun and meets our competitive needs!
18. Baseball game – We’re in Toronto, so the Blue Jays is where it’s at! If you’re looking for cheap tickets to a baseball game, you can still have a ton of fun in the nosebleed sections too!
19. Minor League Hockey Game – We just ticked this one off our list – always a fun night.
20. Archery – We’ve never tried this, and I can’t wait. I think it will be a ton of fun.
21. Toronto Island – We’re saving this for the summer and are planning to make a day of it… picnic, beach, bike riding, relaxing.
Chill Date Night Ideas
22. Jazz Bar – This is a good one if you want to dress up, get a little closer and have a fun, romantic night out.
23. Explore a new neighbourhood – There are so many great ways to do this… check out a local festival, restaurant, cafes, shops. When the weather gets a little warmer, we plan on doing Chinatown and Little Italy, and we were just in Greek town the other day.
24. Botanical Gardens – Most cities have a botanical garden where you can enjoy a long stroll, but most also have special events too – showcasing music, light shows, plays, concerts and so much more.
25. Drive-in Movie – Every summer we say we’re going to do this and yet, time flies by so quickly that we don’t, so this is the year!
Next Steps: Create Your List & Make Plans
1. Grab your partner and brainstorm together. You can create categories such as: free, cheap, outdoor, at home, etc.
2. Be sure to write everything down. Even if there is something you’re not sure about, it’s so important to step outside our comfort zone and try new things, especially if it’s something your other half is passionate about.
3. Agree to a schedule – once a week? Once a month?
4. Book your first 3 dates in your calendar and commit to doing them. If you have kids, book a babysitter!
Final Thoughts
Honestly, even sitting down and talking about the things we wanted to do together felt like a date itself. It helped us connect and daydream a little about the things we want to do with one another.
So often we let our ‘must-do’ schedules dictate our entire lives, but truly that isn’t living to the fullest.
Creating a date ideas list with your other half ensures you’re planning for more quality time, which we all need.
